Balentine Photography Vermont BridesNo matter which part of the world you come from, Vermont will surprise and delight you. Here we boast of gorgeous mountainscapes and verdant green valleys filled with trees, lakes and meadows. The towns and cities of Vermont feature historic stone and brick buildings, and Vermont hospitality is an important state industry that is done with professionalism and style.

You're getting married?

You're ready and you're going to set the date. In Vermont, you'll need a license, which can be purchased from any town clerk for $45.00. There isn't a waiting period: you can in fact marry on the same day. Licenses are good for a 60 day period, and if not used, must be renewed.

Same day weddings aside, most weddings require planning and organizing. Let us help!

Choose your date

Remember to not only pick the right date to fit you and your intended's schedule, but also find out your friends and family schedules, too.

Set A Budget

Those numbers are important! You will need to know where you want to emphasize your largest spending, and where you need to minimize it. Is the ceremony meant to be a mind-blowing experience that will come off with the precision of a Las Vegas show? Or is an intimate wedding followed by an entertaining and festive reception more your style?

You do not have to spend a fortune or go deep into debt to have a beautiful, memorable wedding event. With planning and time spent on the phone, internet and with bridal publications, you can find the right vendors to fit your financial goals.

Wedding Planner?

Not everyone wants to pay the fee for a professional wedding planner, but more often than not they can help you jump hurdles that might otherwise seem insurmountable. A wedding coordinator who has real world experience can be invaluable when problems begin to crop up: they've seen it happen before and know the ways to overcome them. Besides that, they are a fantastic resource for refining and focusing your wishes and goals.

How Many Guests?

This can be the tricky part of your progress toward a fully organized wedding. There may be people you feel forced to invite, on the other hand there are people you want to have present who have difficult schedules, or are going to have to come from a great distance. Balancing the demands of the guest list can be a major challenge. But before you can determine the location and the reception/meal, you've got to know how many people you will need to seat, take care of and entertain. This is where a cool head can really help manage all of the personalities and expectations that can come into play as you plan your Vermont wedding. And that's the key to remember: this is your wedding.

Select your locations

Of course you have to have the event somewhere - - and in Vermont there are so many beautiful locations to choose from. Even if the ceremony is occurring at the family home, or your local church, there is still the reception to plan for. Likewise, for a memorable wedding at a historic site ringed with gorgeous landscaping and architecture there very well may not be a convenient place for the reception. Make a list of the top five places you want to have for your wedding and start pruning the list by asking questions, getting quotes on the cost, and imagining how you want the day to go and if it will fit.

More choices: Officiant, Caterer, Florist, Videographer, Photographer and Gown

If you have your guest list number more or less set, the location picked, and a place for your reception ready to go, then the final major decisions are ready for your full attention.

  1. Minister? Rabbi? A civil service officiant? This can be tough if you and beloved do not share a common religious background. Do you want to combine traditions? Opt out by going with something like a civil service?
  2. Catering: A wedding day can be long, and the one thing everyone attending is going to need is the energy to keep going and enjoying the event! Good food presented in keeping with your wedding style is a top priority, and you will need to make sure your catering service (even if provided by the location you're choosing) will be able to match what you're doing. Make sure you ask the questions that you need answers for from any potential vendor, and be sure to listen when they answer with ideas and options. A professional caterer has years of experience you can draw upon so that you get both the best possible pricing, but also the best possible result.
  3. Florist: Flowers and weddings go together like Vermont and green mountains. Talk to your potential florist about your wedding style and your goals for colors and the scope of the event. How much space does the florist need to think about when they use decorative flower arrangements? What are the colors you and the bridesmaids / groomsmen will be using? An experienced florist will know the questions to ask you so that nothing gets left out of your planning.
  4. Videographer: A movie recording of your wedding can be both a cherished souvenir and a way to simply share the event with people who couldn't be there or who participated, but were so busy doing their part they couldn't see much of the event. A good videographer will be able to slip into and out of the flow of your event, capturing everything you want recorded for posterity. A professional Vermont videographer will provide an edited and finished DVD/video record that will combine your music with the sights and sounds of your special day.
  5. Photographer: A Vermont Wedding Photographer is the person who has the responsibility to capture and preserve the images that you will be able to gaze at for decades to come to remember and enjoy your wedding event all over again. Ask to see samples, get a feel for the person. talk about what you're hoping for. A pro photographer with good equipment will know how to direct people when necessary so that no important shots are missed; likewise, the professional wedding photographer knows how to become almost invisible as they capture sights that may have escaped most everyone else's eyes.
  6. The Ring: Often this was one of the first items settled upon by a couple. But if not, then it is time to get moving! Vermont is the home for many fine jewelers and custom ring designers.
  7. Invitations: Don't forget this one! It's obvious, but its easy to put off until it becomes a problem. Give plenty of lead time to your guests so that they can juggle schedules and make plans of their own to join you for your perfect Vermont wedding event.
  8. The Wedding Gown: In truth, maybe the wedding gown should have come first in this entire list of helpful tips for your Vermont Wedding. Why? First of all, because it is often the most fun the bride has apart from the event itself: choosing that special dress. A wedding dress is the first focal point of a wedding ceremony, and it not only clothes and frames you for all of your guests to see, it also represents you by its style, grace, and color. It is often the first step toward arranging the colors and style of the whole event, from the bridesmaids dresses to the flowers and decorations. Vermont is the home for many excellent gown and formal wear specialty shops.

The music!

Whether you're choosing the sounds for your ceremony or the music everyone will enjoy at the reception, the choices you make will be on display for every ear. Vermont is the home for many trained, professional musicians. Vermont is also the place to find talented DJs who can set up the equipment and provide the audio aural environment that has your guests relaxing and enjoying the mood of your wedding. What do you want your guests to hear? What do you think they would like to hear? There is a musical group, duo or DJ for just about any budget.
